What is the criteria for judging the events?
In rough stock rodeo events like bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding, the scoring system is a blend of the rider’s and the animal’s performance, each judged out of 50 points by two judges for a total of up to 100 points. The rider’s score considers balance, control, and the ability to spur in rhythm with the animal without touching it or the equipment with the free hand. The animal's score reflects the difficulty it presents, including the power and unpredictability of its bucking. Scores combine these elements, and in cases of insufficient animal performance, re-rides may be offered. The system aims to fairly assess both rider skill and animal challenge.
